Quo Vadis GIS

  • Where is development getting us?
  • What do we have to watch out for in future?
  • Which new Free Software projects are in the queue?

These and other questions are discussed in our meta level orientation meetings titled "Quo Vadis GIS?". QuantumGIS, uDig, GeoServer WFS-T, MapStorer and SANY are terms which have come up in discussions recently.

We keep you tuned to the right channels and make sure that you get a thorough overview of what is going on.

Program

09:00 Introduction
An informal setting to begin with helps to feel at ease and motivates discussion. Each attende introduces herself and describes where she comes from, what she does and what she hoped to learn.

09:45 Welcome note
An introductory note gives an overview to the topics of the day and makes a snapshot of the meeting at that moment. This is valuable to structue discussion and helps summarize the goals of the meeting.

10:00 Free and Open Source GIS projects - Spatial IT software overview

  • Desktop GIS
  • WebGIS
  • Spatial Databases
  • SDI components

11:45 MapGuide Open Source
The well renowned company Autodesk has developed the all new Web Mapping Environment MapGuide Open Source and licensed it as GNU LGPL software thus donating it to the Open Source community.

Obviously this produces questions:

WFS und WFS-T - Interaktivity for Online Maps

15:30 SensorGIS
Kleinste Sensoren messen u.a.
