Technical OGC Interoperability Day

03/06/2008 - 09:00
03/06/2008 - 17:00

Standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium are becoming more and more established in the geospatial world and hold the key to build e.g. 3D-Geodata infrastructures based on interoperable components.

Whilst market demand for standards compliant components is steadily growing, many end users are still puzzled as to how the underlying specifications actually evolve, or what the direct benefits, e.g. of CityGML are in the context of their day to day business.

On Tuesday the 3rd of June 2008 you have a chance to get first hand answers to such questions at the OGC Interoperability Day in Potsdam, Germany.

Mark Reichardt, President of the OGC, will open the information day with a key note on the value of open standards and their potential to open new market segments. For customers as well as software suppliers and solution integrators there is a huge win-win potential in using open standards based components to build sustainable geospatial solutions.

Another aspect will address funding opportunities in the context of the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission: OGC is actively involved in a number of high profile projects and will present how OGC Membership can help to build successful proposals and support the R&D work in subsequent projects. Selected projects will present their use of OGC standards and talk about their experience in using OGC as a communication platform to advance European Research & Development.

The third topic to be addressed during the interoperability day is the world of 3D and the latest news on OGC CityGML. A number of real world examples will highlight how 3D models and visualisation are becoming part Hof geospatial data infrastructures.

The presentation sessions during the Interoperability Day are accompanied by selected company and project presentations and in the catering and break-out area. After the end of the official program guests are invited to join our little SIG 3D Party: enjoy a little snack or a glass of wine and have a chat with fellow experts.
